Joy Melton Psychoeducational Services & Resilient Kids

Helping you raise happy and resilient kids!

Welcome... I'm so glad you're here!

At Joy Melton Psychoeducational Services and Resilient Kids Coaching, we believe every child deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported—and every parent deserves real tools, not judgment. Whether you're here because your child is struggling with big emotions, anxiety, sensory overwhelm, or shutdowns, you're in the right place.

We specialize in helping proactive parents understand their child’s behavior through the lens of brain science, nervous system regulation, and emotional skill-building. Instead of focusing on fixing “bad behavior,” we help families decode what’s really going on beneath the surface—so you can respond with confidence, not confusion.

Through psychological services, holistic therapies, brain-body coaching, skills building classes and workshops, and parent education, we equip families with science-backed, compassionate strategies that nurture connection, resilience, and long-term wellbeing. You don’t have to walk this path alone—and you don’t have to settle for surface-level solutions.

Take a deep breath. You're not doing anything wrong. And you're not alone. Let's build something stronger—together.

Services for Kids

We offer a range of supportive, brain-based services to help children thrive emotionally, socially, and academically. From individual and group coaching to interactive workshops and therapeutic tools, each service is designed to nurture self-regulation, resilience, and overall well-being in a safe, child-centered environment.

Individual Coaching

Our one-on-one coaching sessions are tailored to support each child’s unique needs. Through a blend of play-based activities, mindfulness, and brain-body strategies, we help kids build emotional awareness, strengthen coping skills, and feel more confident managing stress, big emotions, and everyday challenges—all in a safe, supportive space where they feel seen and understood.

Evaluations

We offer several cost effective options for psychological evaluations. We specialize in evaluations for learning disabilities including dyslexia, ADHD, Autism, Developmental Delays, and Gifted Testings. We also offer cognitive screenings and Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics Assessments.

Group Coaching

Our small group coaching sessions give kids a fun, supportive space to learn and grow together. Through interactive activities, movement, mindfulness, and peer connection, children build emotional regulation skills, resilience, and confidence—all while learning they’re not alone in their struggles. Each group is designed to nurture connection, self-awareness, and nervous system balance.

Workshops

Our interactive workshops give kids a fun, engaging way to learn about their brains, bodies, and emotions. Through movement, mindfulness, creative play, and sensory-based activities, children build self-awareness, emotional regulation, and resilience—all while connecting with peers in a supportive environment.

Specialized Therapies

Our therapeutic interventions are grounded in evidence-based practices and designed to help children regulate their nervous systems, promote relaxation, and manage stress. By supporting brain training and neural integration, we help improve behavior, learning, and sensory processing—empowering kids to thrive emotionally, socially, and academically.

PEMF Therapy

PEMF therapy is a non-invasive treatment that utilizes electromagnetic fields to stimulate and heal the body. It involves exposing the body to low-frequency electromagnetic fields that promote cellular repair and improve overall health. This therapy may reduce inflammation, increase circulation, promote relaxation, and improve sleep. You can choose from individual sessions, session packages, or rental units.

Safe & Sound Protocol

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is an evidence-based listening therapy that helps shift the nervous system to be more present and regulated while improving client capacity for connection and receptivity to other therapies. The SSP is designed to reduce stress and auditory sensitivity while enhancing social engagement and resilience by re-patterning the auditory and nervous systems for safety and connection.

Interactive Metronome

Interactive Metronome® is a brain-based training tool that uses rhythm and timing exercises to help improve focus, attention, coordination, and self-regulation. By engaging kids in fun, movement-based tasks that sync with a steady beat, it strengthens the brain’s timing networks—boosting skills related to learning, behavior, and emotional control.

BrainTap Meditation

BrainTap® for Kids is a calming, science-backed tool that combines gentle light, sound, and guided meditation to help children relax, reset, and regulate their nervous systems. The headset supports focus, emotional balance, better sleep, and stress reduction—making it a fun and effective way to promote mindfulness and brain wellness in kids.

Support for Parents

We partner with parents to help them better understand their child’s behavior, emotional needs, and learning profile. Through individualized consultations, advocacy support, and practical trainings, we empower caregivers with the tools, strategies, and knowledge they need to confidently support their child at home, in school, and beyond.

Parent Consultations

Our parent consultations offer a supportive space to explore your child’s behavior, emotional needs, and developmental concerns. We’ll work together to identify underlying challenges, answer your questions, and create practical, personalized strategies to help you better support your child with confidence and clarity.

Perfect for parents who want to feel more empowered, connected, and equipped.

Resilient Kids Collective

Join a community of parents who get it. Our workshops and support groups offer education, encouragement, and real-life tools to help you navigate the ups and downs of parenting. Together, we explore topics like behavior, emotional regulation, and stress—so you feel more supported, informed, and connected.

Our Belief & Philosophy

We believe that behavior is communication—not defiance. When a child is acting out, melting down, or shutting down, it’s not a sign of disrespect—it’s a signal that they’re overwhelmed, dysregulated, or missing a skill. Our work is rooted in the understanding that kids do well when they can, and when they can’t, it’s our job to get curious—not critical. That’s why we use a proactive, brain-based approach that focuses on the nervous system, not just the behavior. We don’t believe in shame-based discipline or quick fixes. We believe in building real skills through connection, coregulation, and emotional safety—because children thrive when they feel seen, supported, and understood.

Our Approach

Our approach is compassionate, science-backed, and strengths-based. We look beyond surface behavior to understand what a child’s nervous system is signaling—because meltdowns, shutdowns, and outbursts are often stress responses, not signs of defiance. From this foundation, we work to build real, lasting skills in kids by focusing on the core pillars of resiliency: self-regulation, emotional literacy, connection, flexibility, and confidence. We help children understand their brains and bodies in ways that empower—not shame—and we guide parents in responding with connection and co-regulation instead of control. Every child holds strengths. When we nurture those strengths and teach them the tools to manage life’s challenges, we lay the groundwork for emotional wellbeing that lasts.

TESTIMONIALS

What Our Parents Say

"Ms. Joy's approach is whole person. She is patient and took the time to build a comfortable safe space and really got to know my daughter. My daughter has been to many counselors/psychologists over the years and Joy was the first to dig deeper. Her approach is individualized. She really seems to understand trauma in all it's forms and how it presents. She is sincere, relatable, approachable, empathetic and knowledgeable. She is #1 in my book. We really trust her. I'm very grateful she came into my daughter's life when she did. We've seen so much growth since we started working with her."

~ Alexa's Mom

Joy's support and guidance have led to incredible progress for our son. He now experiences fewer and shorter meltdowns, has made significant social gains, and can handle peer conflicts with ease. He also handles transitions without protest, is more attentive in conversations, and talks more. Thanks to Joy, our son had a successful 5th-grade year without any serious behavioral difficulties. We are incredibly grateful for her help."

~ Adam's Mom

Ms. Joy was able to see beyond my little girl's big, baffling behaviors and notice the diamond in the rough inside. She was able to foster her quirky personality,  and harness her strengths and help her blossom. She made our little diamond shine so BRIGHT! I don't know where we would be without her. Our experience was life changing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take insurance?

Joy Melton Psychoeducational Services, LLC is not affiliated with insurance networks; however, we can provide a superbill for potential reimbursement. Payment is required at the time of service unless other arrangements have been made. Payment can be made via cash, Zelle, or credit/debit card. Financing is also available if you qualify through CareCredit.

What types of evaluations do you do?

We provide many different types of evaluations. Whether you are looking to determine if your child has dyslexia or other learning disabilities, ADHD, Autism, Anxiety, Developmental Delays, or Gifted evaluations we have you covered. Need something not on the list? Ask us. We might still be able to help.

How much do your evaluations cost?

Our evaluations range from $600 to $2500 depending on the type of evaluation needed. Evaluations are comprehensive meaning that we look at all areas of suspected deficits. During your initial evaluation consultation meeting, we will be reviewing in depth paperwork that you would have already completed and you will be asked many questions to help guide the evaluation planning process. You will be given a quote at that time for the evaluation cost and can chose at that time to continue or discontinue the evaluation.

Why do you do coaching instead of counseling/therapy?

As a school psychologist I have found that a strengths based, coaching approach resonates particularly well with most children because it emphasizes skill-building, goal-setting, and practical strategies for navigating challenges. While therapy focuses on processing emotions or addressing deeper psychological concerns, coaching tends to be more action-oriented and future focused, while aligns well with the developmental needs of kids and teens. With that said, if a child shows signs of needing deeper therapeutic support, I integrate those modalities or will refer out. But for many challenges coaching can be a highly effective and engaging framework.

How much do individual coaching sessions for kids cost?

Our session rates are as follows:

30 min session = $75

45 min session = $125

60 min session = $150

We also offer remote sessions which are slightly less and monthly package options

How much do parent consultations or advocacy cost?

Initial parent consultation and advocacy session rate is $150.

If you need more than one session or would like me to review school records such as psychoeducational evaluation reports, review IEP goals, 504 plans, behavior intervention plans, make suggestions or recommendations or attend a meeting with you either in person or remotely please let me know and I can bundle these services for you to make them more cost effective.

I have more than one child I'd like to get services for. Do you offer discounts?

If you have more than one child that you would like services for we can discuss to determine the best option. Sometimes we offer discounts on individual sessions; however, sometimes, I am able to do the siblings together if we are working on similar skills which helps financially. We also offer small group in-person and remote sessions which are a better bang for your buck. Please ask about these options.

What are your accepted payment options?

We are private pay and accept cash, credit cards, Zelle, and CareCredit. We are also an approved provider for the Step Up for Students Family Empowerment Scholarship. We will be offered partial scholarships for some of our services later this year.

Do you offer payment plans or financing?

Yes, for evaluations and some of our package pricing we offer finacing through CareCredit and accept the CareCredit credit card. We might also offer other payment plans depending on your circumstances. Please let us know you would like to discuss these options further at your initial appointment.

What is CareCredit?

The CareCredit health, wellness, and personal care credit card gives you a convenient, flexible way to pay for care for the whole family—including pets! With everyday promotional financing for purchases of $200 or more, you can pay over time with convenient monthly payments.* See if you prequalify with no impact to your credit score.*Subject to credit approval. Minimum monthly payments required. See carecredit.com for details.

Do you offer a sliding scale fee?

Our goal is to make our services affordable and for children and families to get the help and support they need. If you have limited financial resources please ask us about our sliding scale fee to see if you qualify.

Do you offer any courses for parent?

Yes, we are working on two different online parent courses which will be out this fall.

What is the Resilient Kids Club?
